Dance is a universal language of beauty
Flamenco is known for its emotional intensity, proud carriage, expressive use of the arms and rhythmic stamping of the feet.
It has been shrouded in mystery for many years, and it has only in recent years become known to, but not fully understood by, the rest of the world.
Flamenco = brain twister!
Flamenco is a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity known as one of the most technical dance styles, requiring years of practice because it involves comprehensive brain and muscle memory and exercise.
Flamenco dances require extraordinary coordination of the body parts, feel for rhythm and precision.
The class starts with general warming-up, stretching, flamenco posture and arms technique. Next, we go over the footwork, slowly and faster, to the count and to the music, adding one of the upper body part movement at a time.
Basic choreography for Sevillanas is taught in couples, in line and in group formations. Later you will learn how to use fans, shawls, skirts, flowers and castanets in this dance.
If you miss a class you can catch up watching the video lessons made for you to practice at home.
Please, wear a practice skirt and character/ flamenco or any hard comfortable shoes with sturdy heels and instep strap for this class. The props are available for practice in class and for sale from the instructor. Sevillana dresses are usually worn for the show, be we do not necessarily need them.
About Gypsy dance
Gypsies were the first street dancers in history who always produced highly entertaining and commercially successful art by mixing and matching their original Northern Indian folkloric traditions with the cultures and styles of the countries they traveled through.
Russian Gypsy dance = pure sweat!
This dance is physically intense because of the kicks, jumps, fast spins, tapping and acrobatic elements performed at the increasing speed. Towards the end of the dance the rhythm is almost insanely fast and requires a lot of stamina and coordination.
Russian Gypsy dance class
Russian Gypsy dance is easy to learn, flows naturally to music and allows for improvisation.
The class starts with stretching and upper body moves practice on the floor, followed by the technique, attitude and improvisation exercises. We usually practice steps and turns first, then add the skirt or other props movements and do them in combinations.
Everyone learns a solo version of the dance (that may vary based on personal abilities) until gets ready to keep up with the tempo of the music and move in formations that are set up later depending on the number of the performers.
Please, bring a yoga mat, pants, knee pads, comfortable shoes and the fullest of your skirts to practice. For the performance you will need a double circle (720 degree) skirt , colorful and ruffled (at least 20 yard at the hem), to be expressively used as a prop. Other props for the Gypsy dance include tambourine and fringed Russian shawl.
